"About one in every four diabetics experience frequent
bouts of constipation, making it by far the most common gastrointestinal
issue for people with diabetes. The problem afflicts both
type 1 and type 2 diabetes sufferers, and is known to be significantly
more prevalent among those diabetics who also suffer from
nerve damage."

"Diabetes and Flax: Diabetes is a complex problem, and
while flaxseed alone isn't a cure, it has been used extensively
in Europe and elsewhere to decrease the need for insulin.
Flax makes insulin more efficient at controlling blood sugar
levels. With careful monitoring, flaxseed can be a significant
tool in decreasing an individual's dependency on insulin.
This is an area where you need to work closely with your doctor
if you're an insulin-dependent diabetic. http://www.drajadams.com/NutriFiber.html

"The idea that probiotics for constipation
might be effective was supported by studies that showed that
probiotics had a positive effect on constipation symptoms
in persons who suffered from irritable bowel syndrome, a condition
characterized by spasms of the colon resulting in alternating
constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Because of these
positive results, further studies were carried out to address
the role probiotics for constipation might play in the chronic
constipation sufferer. So far, results of these studies have
shown some support for use of probiotics for constipation,
particularly in patients diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome.
Positive effects were seen more frequently when a mixture
of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli were given. The thought
is that the presence of these bacteria increases production
of lactic acid which lowers the pH of the colon, resulting
in enhanced colon motility and more regular bowel movements."

"It is no surprise that there may be
a link between constipation and probiotics. Probiotics have
been demonstrated to reduce diarrhea, for example. Probiotics
are also sometimes helpful for individuals who have IBS, or
Irritable Bowel Syndrome. While research is still ongoing,
the potential for probiotics to be able to help with things
like constipation seems to be very high."

PhGs are the main active components for curing kidney deficiency,
antioxidation and neuroprotection; galactitol and oligosaccharides
are the representatives for the treatment of senile constipation,
while polysaccharides are responsible for improving body immunity.

"A large proportion of the population
all over the world consumes acetylsalicylic
acid (ASA: aspirin) or other nonsteroidal, antiinflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs). This is associated with a considerable morbidity
and mortality. Elderly patients, patients with prior history
of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) or its complications, those
who require high doses of NSAIDs and those undergoing concomitant
therapy with corticosteroids or anticoagulants, are at particularly
high risk of developing gastroduodenal injuries and related
adverse reactions..." PMID:
